1. List your institutions

List your banks, brokers, and other places that hold your assets. Group them into categories, such as savings and investments.

You can add the same institution to more than one category. Each entry is separate.

2. Use clear account names

Use a name such as “Emergency savings”. Avoid short codes and full account numbers.

Enter the currency and your estimate of the value. Values do not update on their own.

3. Add helpful notes

Add a note to each institution. For example: “Account documents are in the blue folder at home. Ask the bank what you need to do next.”

Think about the person who will read it. A partner may know the folder. A parent, adult child, or friend may need its location.

Use details that fit your situation. Do not include passwords or other secrets. Notes point to documents outside the app; they do not attach those documents.

4. Protect your map and backups

Read how we protect your data. New portfolios use E2E Encryption (end-to-end encryption). You need a passphrase to unlock the data.

Keep a copy of your passphrase in a safe place outside Family Asset Map. If you export a JSON file, store it safely too. Exported files are not encrypted.

5. Check family access

Check the email address before you give access. Send the link to that person. If you use an email invitation, check its status in the Share window.

Share the portfolio passphrase separately. Ask the person to open the map on their device. Check that they can read it.

6. Set a review date

Add a reminder to your calendar. Review the map regularly and after important changes.

Check institutions, notes, values, and who has access. Family Asset Map does not send review reminders.
