1. Sign in with your email

Select “Create account”. Enter your email address. Enter the code from the latest email.

You use email codes to sign in. You do not need an account password. Your encrypted portfolio uses a separate passphrase: a long password that protects its data.

2. Create your portfolio

New portfolios use E2E Encryption (end-to-end encryption). Your browser encrypts the data before it sends it to us. We cannot read the data without your passphrase.

Choose a passphrase with at least 12 characters. Make it long and do not use it elsewhere. Keep a copy in a safe place. We cannot reset it to recover your data.

You can choose Standard mode instead. In Standard mode, our server can read your portfolio data. Standard mode does not provide E2E Encryption.

3. Add your assets

Add a category, such as savings. Add an institution, such as a bank or broker. Add accounts under that institution.

Use names your family knows. Enter each account value and currency. Add notes to an institution to show where you keep documents.

Family Asset Map does not get balances or exchange rates from banks. You enter them yourself. You can also import a portfolio from a JSON file, the file format that Family Asset Map uses.

Do not add bank passwords, private keys, or recovery phrases.

4. Check that your map is saved

The online app saves your changes to the server. Check for “Saved”. If a save fails, select “Retry save”.

To open the saved map on another device, sign in with your email. For E2E Encryption, also enter your passphrase.

The local edition works offline. You must save your changes to a JSON file yourself. JSON exports are not encrypted. Anyone with the file can read it, even if you exported it from a portfolio with E2E Encryption.

5. Give your family access

Select “Share”. Enter the email address of the person you choose. Select “Allow viewing”.

The person can view your whole portfolio, but cannot edit it. This is called read-only access. Ask them to sign in with that email address.

Use “Copy link” to send them the link yourself. If you choose an email invitation, check the result in the Share window. If the email cannot be sent, send the link yourself.

For E2E Encryption, share the passphrase through a separate, safe method. The link or email code alone cannot unlock the data.

6. Check the map together

Ask your family member to open the map on their device. Check that they understand the notes. Ask them to find one institution and the documents for one account.

The owner updates the map. People with shared access can view it, but cannot edit it. Values do not update on their own.

Set a reminder in your calendar to review the map. Update it when your assets or accounts change.
